SENMC Phi Theta Kappa Students Receive All State Academic Team Recognition in Santa Fe
(CARLSBAD, NM) Southeast New Mexico College students, Ethni Florez, Krystal Jefferson, and Jordan Medina received the New Mexico All-State Academic Team Recognition on February 25th at the State Capitol in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The recognition is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and the New Mexico Independent Community College Association. To qualify for the Academic All Stars Team, a student must be a PTK member in good standing, have a 3.5 GPA or above, be graduating in the Spring Semester, and be nominated by their PTK Advisors. At the same time, students are nominated to the Coca Cola All American scholarship at the national level.
SENMC PTK Advisor, Dr. Raven Anderson said, “It was a privilege to nominate these three outstanding students for the New Mexico All-State Academic Team and the Coca-Cola All-American award. They embody the four Phi Theta Kappa Hallmarks—Scholarship, Leadership, Fellowship, and Service—serving as true inspirations. I am immensely proud of their achievements and look forward to all they will accomplish in the future.”
Ethni Florez is the only Early College High School or Dual Credit student in the state to make the Academic Team. She is currently finishing her associate degree at SENMC and her High School Diploma at the same time. She is active in extra curricular activities such as Tennis and Choir and serves as peer mentor at SENMC all while maintaining a high level of academic achievement.
Krystal Jefferson is set to graduate in May with an Associate Degree in Automotive Technology. Through SENMC’s trades programs, she has worked diligently to develop the skills needed to transition directly into the workforce upon completing her degree. Her dedication and perseverance are evident in her strong academic performance and active involvement in the PTK Chapter at SENMC.
Jordan Medina will graduate in May with an Associate Degree in Business Management. As the treasurer of the PTK Chapter, she played a key role in research for this year’s Honors in Action project. As a non-traditional student, Jordan has successfully balanced her academic excellence with full-time work and other commitments, demonstrating exceptional dedication and perseverance.
According to Phi Theta Kappa’s official website, ptk.org, Phi Theta Kappa is the official honor society for two-year colleges. Since its founding in 1819, PTK celebrates academic achievements, personal growth, leadership, and service among community and technical college students. The organization has nearly 1,250 chapters worldwide and over 4.3 million students inducted. PTK offers scholarship opportunities, leadership development, and resources to promote success beyond the classroom.
