SENMC to host Annual Black History Month Event on February 20th

Southeast New Mexico College to host Annual Black History Month Event on February 20th.

(Carlsbad, NM) SENMC invites you to join us at the Annual Black History Month event on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 4:30 PM in the SENMC Library. The program will feature community guest speakers, Yolanda Jimenez, Michael Johnson, and Tyron Jackson.

The Association for the Study of African American Life and History has highlighted a powerful national theme this year, exploring the diverse experiences of African Americans across history. It sheds light on the struggles and triumphs linked to black labor, wage disparities, and employment discrimination. This theme isn't just about reflecting on challenges—it's a celebration of the remarkable achievements and progress made by Black professionals, entrepreneurs, and workers in a range of fields, highlighting their enduring contributions to society and the workforce.

Samantha Villa, the SENMC Diversity Committee Chair said, “The Diversity Committee really looks forward to partnering with the NAACP Carlsbad Chapter to host this event every year.”

Dr. Kevin Beardmore, President of Southeast New Mexico College, added “SENMC is honored to be hosting this event for our campus and community.  It is a great opportunity to learn more about the history of the civil rights movement.”

Light refreshments will be served at the event. For more information, please contact Samantha Villa at (575) 234-9330.

This event is held in partnership with the SENMC Diversity Committee, SENMC Library, and NAACP Carlsbad Chapter.
