Southeast New Mexico College Mourns Passing of Carol Thomas
(CARLSBAD, NM) It is with deep sadness that Southeast New Mexico College announces the passing of our dear friend and colleague Carol Thomas. Carol played a critical role in SENMC’s journey to becoming an independent college as the senior VP of Ferrelli, the consulting firm that has assisted SENMC in its transition from a branch campus at NMSU to Southeast New Mexico College. From the beginning of our journey, Carol and her team at Ferrelli, rolled up their sleeves and started working on the difficult task of our technology integrations even before the contract was in place to meet the critical demands of a successful transition to independence. Throughout Carol’s life, she has always been very justice minded, in her early adulthood she was devoted to the civil rights movement, labor movement, and other social justice causes including working with Angela Davis, Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta and the United Farm Workers. She brought this passion and drive to our campus when she understood the reasons SENMC was striving to become independent. She came on board with the passion and drive she approached every day in her life.
Southeast New Mexico College held a very important spot in her heart. So much so, that she asked that In lieu of flowers, Carol requested before passing that donations be made to the Carol Thomas Memorial Scholarship at Carlsbad Community Foundation, supporting women in technology at Southeast New Mexico College, a school and community she came to love very much. Donations can be made at thecarolfund.com Carol’s obituary can be found at obits.csnh.com/carol-thomas.
