Rick Wiedenmann

Professor Richard Todd Wiedenmann is the current chair of the Department of Science and Engineering and has been with NMSU/SENMC since 2000 making him the longest-serving faculty on campus. He has been teaching environmental science, cellular and microbiology, and human anatomy and physiology. In the past, he even team-taught anthropology.

Professor Wiedenmann was born in Wabash, Indiana, and moved to New Mexico in 2000. He completed his Masters of Science in biology in 1991 graduating from Baylor University in Waco Texas. Previously he had completed his Bachelors of Arts in Museum Studies in 1989, and his Bachelors of Science in biology in 1987, also graduating from Baylor University.

Currently, he sits on several committees including the Promotion and Tenure Committee as well as a member of the SENMC Faculty Senate. He is also a senior deputy medical investigator for the state.  He is very active around the community and is presently the Search and Rescue Coordinator for Eddy County Fire and Rescue, as well as a Search and Rescue Field Coordinator for the New Mexico State Police. He is a member of the Carlsbad Heights Lions Club, Chair of the Carlsbad Police Department’s Citizen’s Advisory Board, and member of the Carlsbad Beautification Committee.

Professor Wiedenmann is known for wanting to help interest his students in science. He wants to spark their curiosity so as to motivate them to learn. To him, he finds more importance in learning a concept, than the importance in a grade. He wants his students to be able to walk out of his class with something new, and to him, that is a sense of true accomplishment.
